Key Features

Deep Reach Access The deep socket body gives you the extra clearance needed when fasteners sit on longer studs or recessed hardware. That means less fighting for fit in tighter service work. Chrome Vanadium Build Made from premium chrome vanadium steel for strength and durability. For a mechanic’s socket, that matters because it needs to hold up to repeated use without rounding out under normal shop torque. Better Grip Handling Knurled beauty rings help reduce hand slippage when you are starting or removing the socket by hand. It is a small detail, but it makes greasy shop work less annoying.

Overview

The DeWalt DWMT88946OSP Mechanics 6 Point 1/2 in. Drive Deep Socket 9/16 in. is a single SAE deep socket built for mechanics, service techs, and anyone working with 9/16 in. fasteners on a 1/2 in. drive setup. This is a deep socket designed for fastening and removal where extra depth is needed over exposed studs or longer bolt threads. Model Number: DWMT88946OSP.

The 6-point design matters because it gives the socket a more secure grip on the flats of the fastener compared to looser-fitting options. That is the style most people reach for when they want solid contact and less chance of slipping during removal. On stubborn hardware, that extra confidence is what keeps a routine job from turning into a rounded fastener problem.

Its deep profile is the real reason you buy this socket instead of a standard shallow one. If you are working on automotive hardware, equipment service, or general shop maintenance, deep sockets earn their keep whenever the nut sits farther down on the thread or there is not enough clearance for a regular socket body. It is a simple hand tool, but the right depth saves time fast.

DeWalt builds this socket from premium chrome vanadium steel, which is the right material call for day-to-day durability in a mechanic’s socket. The knurled beauty rings are another useful detail. They help reduce hand slippage when you are spinning the socket on or off by hand, especially when your gloves or fingers are slick from oil and grease.

Because this is a 1/2 in. drive deep socket in an SAE 9/16 in. size, it fits naturally into an existing ratchet and socket setup for shop, garage, and maintenance work. It is not trying to be a whole set. It is the exact size you grab when that one common fastener shows up and you want the right socket instead of making do with something close.

This DeWalt deep socket is a good pick for mechanics, fleet maintenance, agricultural equipment service, and serious DIY users who buy individual sockets based on actual need. If you already run 1/2 in. drive ratchets, breaker bars, or torque wrenches and need a 9/16 in. deep socket with a 6-point fit, this is the straightforward shop staple that belongs in the drawer.

Reach Longer Fasteners

A deep socket is the fix when a standard socket bottoms out before it reaches the fastener. For repair and maintenance work, that extra length is what lets you get onto nuts sitting on longer threaded studs without switching tools or improvising.

• 9/16 in. SAE socket size for matching common inch-based fasteners
• 1/2 in. drive interface works with standard ratchets, breaker bars, and torque wrenches in that drive size
• 6-point opening is built for secure contact on the flats of the fastener

Pro Tip

Keep a deep 9/16 in. socket next to your shallow one instead of trying to use the deep socket for every job. The deep socket is the right call when the nut sits on a longer stud, but the shallow version usually feels tighter and more controlled when clearance is not an issue.
