Overview

The Festool DTS 400 REQ Orbital Sander Set w/ Granat Abrasive Value Set Systainer is a corded detail sander built for fine finish sanding on small, angled, and hard-to-reach surfaces. This is a detail orbital sander designed for finish sanding trim, corners, edges, and tight work areas. Model Number DTS 400 REQ. If you spend time prepping cabinetry, millwork, doors, window trim, stair parts, or painted surfaces, this is the kind of sander that makes the awkward spots easier instead of turning them into hand-sanding work.

What matters here is the combination of the delta pad shape and the fine 5/64 inch, or 2 mm, stroke. That setup is aimed at finish quality, not aggressive stock removal. The orbital sanding motion helps minimize visible swirl marks, which is exactly what you want when you are working toward paint-ready or stain-ready surfaces. Festool also notes the updated 250W motor improves performance and can remove material up to 25% faster than the previous version, so you get a finer finish without giving up too much productivity.

This sander is built around control. Festool calls out its ergonomic design, light weight, and balanced feel, and that shows up in the way the tool is meant to be used, especially on overhead work or vertical surfaces. A detail sander only earns its keep if it is easy to guide around profiles and inside corners without fighting the tool. The improved soft grip coating helps with that, and the vibration stop is there to keep the feel more balanced through longer sanding sessions.

Dust collection is a big part of why pros buy into the Festool system, and the DTS 400 REQ is set up with that same thinking. The locking dust port gives you a more secure connection, and the included reusable dust bag lets you keep working with dust collection even when you cannot hook up to a Festool CT Dust Extractor. That matters on punch work, occupied spaces, and finish jobs where cleanup time can eat into the day. Better dust control also helps protect the sanding pad and abrasives and keeps the surface clearer while you work.

As a set, this version gives you more than just the tool. You get the Plug-it power cord, StickFix sanding pad, reusable dust bag, edge protector, Systainer3 M 187, and the Granat abrasive value set in its own Systainer. That makes this a more complete sanding setup for someone who wants to get to work with organized storage and a ready supply of abrasives instead of piecing the system together one item at a time.

The Festool DTS 400 REQ Orbital Sander Set w/ Granat Abrasive Value Set Systainer makes the most sense for trim carpenters, cabinet installers, painters, remodelers, finish carpenters, and serious DIY users who care about surface quality. If most of your sanding is broad flat panels, a larger finish sander may be the better first buy. But if your work regularly involves corners, edges, louvers, profiles, narrow parts, or touch-up sanding in tight spots, this is the right tool type for the job.

Reach Corners and Tight Profiles

The delta pad shape is the whole reason to own this tool. It gets into corners, along edges, and around trim details where a rectangular finish sander leaves work behind.

• Designed for fine sanding on detailed, small, difficult-to-reach, and angled surfaces
• 2 mm stroke helps leave a finer surface with less visible swirl

Cleaner Work, Better Finish

Dust control is not just about keeping the room cleaner. It helps you see the surface, protects the pad and abrasive, and cuts down cleanup when the sanding is done.

• Locking dust port improves connection security during use
• Included reusable dust bag supports near dust-free sanding when a dust extractor is not connected

Set Up and Stay Organized

This set is a smarter buy for users who want the tool, abrasives, and storage handled in one shot. The included Systainers keep the sander and sanding supplies organized for transport and jobsite storage.

Tool Nut’s Take

Tool Nut’s Take

Festool DTS 400 REQ Orbital Sander Set for finish guys who hate hand sanding corners

If your work lives in trim profiles, inside corners, stair parts, and touch-up sanding, this set gives you the right tool and a real head start on abrasives and storage.

• Who it’s for: Finish carpenters, cabinet installers, painters, remodelers, and detail-focused DIY users working on small surfaces and tight spots.
• Why it stands out: The delta pad, fine 2 mm stroke, improved 250W motor, and Festool dust collection setup make it a purpose-built finish sander instead of a general sander trying to do detail work.
• Worth knowing: This is a finesse tool, not a heavy stock-removal machine. If most of your sanding is large flat panels, pair it with a larger sander instead of asking this one to do everything.

Common Questions
