Overview

The DEWALT DCB609 FLEXVOLT 9Ah Battery is built for users running DEWALT cordless tools across the 20V MAX and 60V MAX platforms. This is a dual-voltage lithium-ion battery designed for powering cordless tools that need longer runtime and broad platform flexibility. Model Number: DCB609. If you already own DEWALT tools and want one battery that can move between compact 20V MAX tools and larger 60V MAX equipment, this pack is the whole point of FLEXVOLT.

The headline feature here is simple and useful: the battery automatically switches voltage based on the tool you slide it into. That matters because it lets one battery support both 20V MAX and 60V MAX tools without adapters or guesswork. On the job, that means less sorting through different packs and less downtime when you need to move from a drill or impact driver to a higher-demand saw, grinder, or outdoor power tool.

Capacity is where this battery earns its keep. DEWALT rates the DCB609 at 9 amp hours, giving it the kind of runtime that makes sense for tougher work where smaller packs burn through fast. For users running high-draw cordless tools, more capacity usually means fewer battery changes during the day, fewer interruptions, and a better chance of finishing a run of cuts, fasteners, or cleanup without swapping packs mid-task.

DEWALT also built in a 3-LED state-of-charge indicator, which is one of those features you end up using constantly. It gives you a quick read on remaining charge before you start a task, load the truck, or decide whether to put a pack on the charger. That small detail helps with workflow because you are not guessing whether the battery has enough left for one more round of work.

From a jobsite practicality standpoint, this is a cordless lithium-ion battery meant to serve as a serious power source in the FLEXVOLT system. Supplementary product data also notes a silicone-encapsulated module to help keep dust and debris out, which lines up with the kind of dirty, rough conditions these packs see around framing, concrete, demolition, and exterior work. The point is durability and consistent performance in real use, not just bench-top specs.

Compatibility is a major reason to buy this pack. The DEWALT DCB609 FLEXVOLT 9Ah Battery works with DEWALT 20V MAX and 60V MAX tools, and DEWALT states it is compatible with 20V MAX chargers. If you are already on the DEWALT cordless platform, this battery is a smart way to get more runtime while keeping your charging setup simple. It is especially appealing for crews and serious DIY users who want fewer battery types to manage.

Who should buy it? This battery makes the most sense for contractors, remodelers, landscapers, and committed DEWALT users who run cordless tools hard enough to care about runtime. If your current packs are fine for quick punch-list work, this may be more battery than you need. But if you spend real time on saws, grinders, outdoor power equipment, or other higher-demand cordless tools, the DCB609 is the kind of pack that helps keep the work moving.

Built to Cover More of Your Cordless Lineup

If you are trying to simplify your cordless setup, this battery does exactly that. It is meant to move across DEWALT 20V MAX and 60V MAX tools while staying compatible with 20V MAX chargers.

• Automatically switches between 20V MAX and 60V MAX operation based on the tool
• Compatible with DEWALT 20V MAX chargers
• Useful for crews already invested in the DEWALT cordless platform

Longer Runtime for Tougher Work

A 9 amp hour battery is about runtime first. That makes this a better choice for higher-demand cordless work where smaller packs mean more trips back to the charger.

• 9Ah capacity helps support longer run time between swaps
• Designed to help maximize productivity on tough jobs
• Good fit for users running larger cordless tools, not just compact drills

Easy Charge Checks Before You Start

The onboard fuel gauge is one of those features that saves time every day. A quick button press tells you whether the pack is ready to work or headed to the charger.

• 3-LED battery indicator provides fast state-of-charge visibility
• Helps reduce interruptions caused by grabbing an undercharged pack
• Useful when staging batteries for crews, trucks, and service calls

Pro Tip

If you are using this pack in smaller 20V MAX tools, you are buying it for runtime, not compact size. Keep a lighter pack around for overhead or tight-space work, and use the DCB609 when you want to stay on the tool longer without swapping batteries.
