Key Features

More Control Under LoadThe DEWALT ANTI-ROTATION System helps stop the wheel when a pinch, stall, or bind-up is sensed. That means less reactionary torque and a better chance of keeping the grinder under control when the cut goes sideways. Compact Size, Real OutputThis cordless angle grinder puts out 755 MWO and up to 12,500 no-load RPM, so it is built for fast cutting and grinding without dragging an air hose or extension cord around the job. Quick Setup ChangesA spindle lock speeds up wheel swaps, and the clip-on guard lets you convert the Type B guard into a Type A guard fast. Less downtime matters when you are bouncing between cutting tasks.

Overview

The DEWALT ATOMIC 20V MAX 4 in. Angle Grinder Kit, Model DCG400S2, is a compact cordless grinder built for high-powered cutting and grinding where a full-size tool or pneumatic setup gets in the way. This is a cordless angle grinder designed for metal cutting, grinding, and tight-space jobsite work. If you need a grinder that can get into cramped areas without giving up serious speed, this is the point of this kit.

DEWALT rates this grinder at 755 MWO with a brushless motor and 12,500 no-load RPM. On the job, that means it is meant to cut quickly with small diameter Type 1 wheels and keep the pace up for deburring, trimming, and light grinding work. DEWALT also calls out up to 44% more power than 0.7 HP rated pneumatic angle grinders, which tells you exactly where this tool fits: it is aimed at users who want air-tool style performance without hoses, fittings, and compressor noise following them around.

The big differentiator here is size. DEWALT built this ATOMIC grinder for access, not just raw output. The slim body and ergonomic layout are intended for ultra tight spaces, and the brand states it is 13% lighter than a competitive pneumatic angle grinder in use. That matters when you are cutting inside a steel assembly, working around brackets, or making repetitive cuts overhead where bulk and hose drag slow you down more than motor power does.

Control features are where this grinder earns its keep. The DEWALT ANTI-ROTATION System is designed to quickly stop the wheel when a pinch, stall, or bind-up event is detected, reducing reactionary torque. There is also an electronic brake designed to stop the wheel within 1.15 seconds after the trigger is released. For a grinder, those two details matter because they help reduce the drama when a cutoff wheel grabs and they shorten the spin-down time between cuts.

DEWALT also set this tool up to waste less time on accessory changes. The spindle lock allows quick wheel changes without juggling multiple wrenches, and the included clip-on guard lets you convert the standard Type B guard into a Type A guard. The reversible flange setup accommodates 3/8 in. and 5/8 in. arbor size non-hubbed accessories, and DEWALT lists compatibility with standard 4 in. x 3/8 in. and 4 in. x 5/8 in. accessories. If you already stock small cutoff wheels for metal work, that is a practical advantage.

From a jobsite-use standpoint, the paddle switch with lock-off and no-lock-on design is worth noting. That setup is familiar to pros who work under site rules that do not allow lock-on grinders. DEWALT also uses a forward exhaust system to direct air away from the user and help prevent motor overheating. Those are not flashy bullet points, but they make the tool easier to live with during real production work.

As part of the DEWALT 20V MAX platform, this grinder runs on DEWALT battery power and ships as a kit with charger, bag, guard components, flanges, wrench, and cutting wheels. It is also listed as TOOL CONNECT Chip Ready, meaning users who already manage tools through the DEWALT system can add tracking capability with the chip sold separately. That makes this a better fit for crews and shop managers who keep a close eye on where specialty cordless tools end up.

Who should buy it? Fabricators, welders, mechanical contractors, maintenance crews, and remodelers who need a compact cordless grinder for steel cutting and cleanup work will get the most out of it. If your work regularly happens in tight framing bays, under equipment, inside racks, or anywhere hose management is a headache, this grinder makes a strong case. If you mainly need a full-size grinder for heavy stock removal all day long, you may still want a larger platform tool. But for maneuverability, fast cutoff work, and cordless convenience, this one is clearly built with pro use in mind.
