Overview

The Kreg KPTMT100A 20V Ionic Drive Oscillating Multi-Tool is a cordless oscillating multi-tool built for cutting, sanding, and detail work where bigger tools get in the way. This is a oscillating multi-tool designed for cutting, sanding, and working in tight spaces. Model Number: KPTMT100A. Sold as a tool-only configuration, it is a practical fit for users already on Kreg’s 20V platform who want a compact problem-solver for punch-list work, remodeling, trim adjustments, and controlled flush cuts.

What matters most on a tool like this is how easily it adapts from one task to the next. Kreg gives you a brushless motor for consistent output, plus variable speed from 7,000 to 17,000 OPM so you can match the tool to the material instead of forcing one speed to do everything. That range matters in the real world. Lower settings help when you want cleaner control on delicate cuts or finish sanding, while the higher end helps move through tougher material faster.

The trigger-style operation gives the tool a more natural feel than a simple on-off slide switch, especially when you’re repositioning for awkward cuts. The lock-on button helps on longer sanding passes or repetitive work so you’re not constantly squeezing the trigger. That kind of control is a big deal on an oscillating multi-tool, because these tools are often used one-handed, overhead, or in corners where comfort and balance directly affect accuracy.

Kreg also built this tool with a vibration-damping design, backed by metal housing and premium metal gearing. That combination matters for two reasons: smoother operation during longer use, and better long-term durability when the tool sees regular jobsite use. Oscillating tools are notorious for getting fatiguing when vibration is high. A design that cuts down on that fatigue makes detail work easier to manage and helps you stay more precise when you’re cutting to a line or sanding a tight edge.

Blade changes are handled by a toolless system, which is exactly what you want on a multi-tool that may switch between a plunge blade, a flush-cut blade, and a sanding setup several times in one project. Just as important, this tool accepts both open- and closed-back universal blades and accessories. That gives you more flexibility when replacing consumables and helps you avoid being locked into one narrow accessory style.

For jobsite practicality, this bare tool setup keeps the buy-in lower for anyone who already owns a compatible Kreg 20V battery and charger. It also includes an LED light, which helps when you’re working inside cabinets, under sinks, along baseboard, or anywhere shadows make it harder to see your cut line. At 3.01 lbs, it stays light enough for detail work without feeling flimsy.

The Kreg KPTMT100A 20V Ionic Drive Oscillating Multi-Tool makes the most sense for carpenters, remodelers, installers, maintenance crews, and serious DIY users who need one cordless tool that can cut, scrape, sand, and trim in places a saw, grinder, or sander cannot reach cleanly. If you already have the Kreg 20V system and want a versatile cordless multi-tool with a brushless motor, universal accessory fit, and a more durable metal gear housing, this is the kind of tool that earns its spot fast.
