Key Features

Adjustable Angle Control Set and lock drilling angles from -45 to 45 for repeatable angled holes without dragging stock over to a drill press. Consistent Hole Depth The integrated depth stop helps you control how far the bit goes, which matters when you need clean, repeatable results across multiple parts. Kreg Drill Guide Pro Stability GripMaxx non-slip feet, a handle, a self-centering base, and a built-in V-groove help keep the drill guide planted on flat, narrow, and round stock.

Overview

The Kreg Drill Guide Pro, Model Number KDG6500, is a portable drilling guide built for woodworkers, remodelers, and serious DIY users who want straighter, cleaner, more repeatable holes without setting up a full drill press. This is a portable drill guide designed for accurate straight and angled hole drilling. If you drill on workpieces that are too large, too awkward, or too valuable to risk freehand, this tool gives you a more controlled way to work.

The big draw here is angle control. The guide adjusts and locks anywhere from -45 to 45, so you can drill angled furniture parts, hardware locations, and shop fixtures with far better consistency than you will get holding a drill by eye. Positive, repeatable positioning matters when you are drilling multiple matching parts, and the integrated depth stop adds another layer of control by helping you keep hole depth consistent from one piece to the next.

Kreg also built this with real workpiece handling in mind. The self-centering guide on the underside of the base helps line up holes on narrow stock, which is a common pain point when you are working with trim, rails, or smaller furniture components. There is also a built-in V-groove to cradle round stock so it does not roll while you drill. That makes it more useful on dowels, pipe-like material, and other curved pieces that are hard to hold steady with a standard guide.

Stability is where a drill guide either earns its keep or becomes shelf clutter. The Kreg Drill Guide Pro uses a convenient handle and GripMaxx non-slip feet to help keep the base from shifting while protecting the work surface from marring. That is important when you are drilling finished material, working on a bench top, or trying to keep a hole location dead on. The spring-guided plunge action also helps keep the drill moving in a controlled path rather than wandering at the start of the cut.

Dust control is another smart addition. When drilling at 90, the included dust collection adapter connects to a 1 1/4 inch vacuum hose to pull debris away from the cut area. On the bench, that means less mess and better visibility at the hole location. It also helps when you are drilling a series of holes and do not want chips building up around the base and throwing off positioning.

Compatibility is straightforward. Kreg states this guide is designed to work with virtually any drill with a 3/8 inch chuck, so it fits well into a typical cordless drill setup without requiring a dedicated machine. For users already invested in portable woodworking tools, that makes this a practical add-on rather than another big stationary tool competing for floor space.

This drill guide makes the most sense for woodworking tasks where hole placement and repeatability matter more than brute force. Think furniture building, cabinetry, workbench dog holes, repair work, and drilling on large or awkward assemblies that cannot easily go to a benchtop machine. If you want more control than freehand drilling but do not need the footprint of a drill press, this is the kind of accessory that actually gets used.

More Control for Angled and Straight Holes

Freehand drilling is fine until location and angle actually matter. This guide gives you a more controlled path for both straight and angled drilling, which helps cut down on wandering, uneven depth, and mismatched parts.

• Adjusts from -45 to 45 for angled drilling flexibility
• Integrated depth stop helps produce repeatable hole depth
• Portable format lets you bring the guide to the workpiece instead of the other way around

Built to Stay Put on Awkward Stock

A drill guide only helps if it stays stable. Kreg added a handle, non-slip feet, a self-centering base, and a V-groove so the guide works on more than just flat boards.

• Self-centering underside helps position holes in narrow stock
• Built-in V-groove helps hold round stock in place
• GripMaxx non-slip feet help resist slipping while protecting the material surface

Pro Tip

If you are drilling repeated angled holes, lock in your angle and depth stop on a scrap first, then leave the setup alone until the batch is done. That is the fastest way to get matching parts and avoid chasing slight differences from piece to piece.

Tool Nut’s Take

Tool Nut’s Take

Kreg Drill Guide Pro Is the Smart Middle Ground

The Kreg Drill Guide Pro hits a sweet spot for guys who need drill-press-style control without giving up bench space or dragging big workpieces to a stationary machine.

• Who it’s for: Woodworkers, cabinet installers, furniture builders, and serious DIY users who want straighter holes, controlled depth, and better angled drilling than freehand work allows.
• Why it stands out: The angle adjustment, depth stop, self-centering base, V-groove, and vacuum hookup make it useful on a wider range of stock than a basic drill guide.
• Worth knowing: This is about accuracy and repeatability, not replacing a full-size drill press for every job. Where it really earns its keep is on large, awkward, narrow, or round workpieces.
