Key Features

Guided Mortising Control The Woodpeckers MB-516 Mortise Base is built around a guided rod setup that helps keep the base aligned during mortising work. That matters when you need repeatable, straight results instead of fighting a freehand setup. 5/16 Inch Guide Rods This version uses 5/16 inch guide rods, which is the key spec that separates the MB-516 from other Mortise Base variants. If your setup calls for this rod size, this is the one you want. Made in USA Woodpeckers marks this Mortise Base as made in the USA. For buyers who care about machining quality and domestic manufacturing, that is a meaningful detail.

Overview

The Woodpeckers MB-516 Mortise Base is a mortise base from Woodpeckers, Model Number MB-516. This is a mortise base designed for guided mortising and routing applications. If you are setting up for accurate joinery and need the 5/16 inch guide rod version, this is the specific configuration shown here.

What matters most with a product like this is not just that it is a base, but that it is the right base for your guide rod setup. The image identifies this unit as the MB-516 version, which means it is configured with 5/16 inch guide rods. That is the detail that determines fit within the Mortise Base lineup and helps you avoid ordering the wrong variant.

From the design shown, the Woodpeckers layout uses a rigid frame with parallel rods, adjustable hardware, and large clamping knobs for controlled positioning. That kind of setup is aimed at users who want more repeatability when laying out and cutting mortises, rather than relying on a loose, improvised fence arrangement.

The body also carries clear labeling, including face orientation marks and the product family name, which is a practical touch in a busy shop. Small details like that help reduce setup mistakes when you are switching between operations or dialing in a repeat cut.

Woodpeckers also marks this unit as Made in USA, which will matter to woodworkers who buy based on machining quality and build consistency. For a shop accessory that is meant to help with alignment and repeatability, that kind of confidence in the hardware is part of the value.

The best fit for this mortising accessory is the woodworker or serious DIY user who already knows the guide rod size they need and wants the correct Woodpeckers Mortise Base version, not a close-enough substitute. If your setup requires the MB-516 specification, this is the targeted version to look at.
