Accurate Marking & Alignment for Industrial Applications

Taparia centre punches and drift punches are essential hand tools primarily used in metalworking, woodworking, and automotive applications for precision tasks such as marking for drilling, aligning holes, and driving out pins.

Centre Punches Uses

• Marking Drill Start Points: The main purpose is to create an indentation that acts as a guide for a drill bit, preventing it from “wandering” or slipping across the material’s surface when starting a hole.

• Precision and Alignment: It ensures that holes are drilled in the exact, precise location marked, which is crucial in fabrication and assembly processes.

• Material Compatibility: These punches are effective on various materials, including metal, wood, and plastic.

• Pilot Holes: For larger diameter holes, the centre punch mark serves as a guide for a smaller pilot drill bit, which is then followed by the final, larger drill.

Drift Punches Uses

• Aligning Holes: Its primary use is to align two or more components with semi-aligned bolt or rivet holes. The tapered end is inserted into the holes and driven in, forcing the components into perfect alignment so a fastener can be inserted easily.

• Driving out Pins/Bolts (Assisted): A drift punch can be used to completely remove pins or bolts from holes after they have been initially loosened or driven out partially by a drive punch.

• Disassembly Aid: It is valuable in automotive and mechanical repair for positioning parts and separating tightly fitted components by applying force to the large end of the taper.

• Force Application: Force is applied to the large (flat) end, never the tapered tip.
